ART

Originally from Indianapolis, IN, Rachel Ann Dittmer is a fine artist living in Sioux Falls, SD since mid 2015 with her husband, five kids, and 2 cats. She has spent the majority of her marriage fixing up and flipping the houses they’ve lived in and furniture they’ve used. The dining room of her first flip was featured in the online magazine “This Old House.” Rachel loves working with depth of color, high contrast, light and shadow. While she has dabbled with all kinds of mediums, Rachel primarily paints with oil, draws with graphite, and has started working with copic markers in her art in poetry series and as she tries her hand at illustrating.

During some really difficult seasons and stages in her life, Rachel started having visions of being free that really gave her the desire to do whatever it would take to power through and fight for freedom in those areas. As a result, her collection “Woman’s Revival: A Journey to Wholeness” was born, drawing from her feelings within. While they were inspired from her own journey of healing, she wanted to make them universal to all women so they could find themselves in it. During one of her lowest points, she tried to take her own life. The dr. who came into the emergency room before she left tried to shame her for what she did, and at the time, all she wished was that she had taken a more immediate plan of action. She stared at the blank white walls, picturing her “God is in the Rain” painting she had painted only months before, knowing she wouldn’t be the last one in her situation, and realized this collection was meant to be bigger than her. She’s used the collection in the No Suicide Event her church has put on the last few years. Her collection can also be found in her book “Re-Creating Me: Master the Art of Your Identity.”

POETRY

Rachel's first recorded poetry was written at the age of 12. Most of her poetry is written about different things she's dealt with or walked through or areas she's growing in. However, occasionally she writes them from others' perspectives or feelings as well, drawing from intuition or empathy. She prays that God can somehow use her passions and words to reach others on their journeys and bring them closer to Jesus.
